YAKANAL has been awarded a Planning Grant from the Growing Justice Fund to support community-led efforts to restore Indigenous food systems at Laguna Pueblo, New Mexico. Rooted in the belief that culture has always shaped our people’s relationship to corn, YAKANAL centers Indigenous knowledge, foodways, and local governance to advance food sovereignty of Native crops and self-determination. The grant will support planning and coordination for YAKANAL-led initiatives such as farm-to-table, farm-to-school, and farm-to-store programs. By strengthening equitable food procurement and shifting purchasing power to local growers, the project aims to elevate culturally relevant foods, support community farmers, and build sustainable pathways for health and economic resilience. This planning phase will lay the groundwork for long-term, tribal-led transformation of local food systems across Laguna Pueblo
