The Sentli Center for Regenerative Agriculture is spearheading the Regenerate RGV project to improve food access, public health, and economic resilience in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV). This initiative focuses on enhancing the region’s food system by building the infrastructure needed for small and mid-sized BIPOC farmers to enter institutional markets. Sentli will facilitate connections between local farmers and school districts, helping to capture a share of the $400 million spent annually on food procurement by local schools. The project will provide critical support, including a refrigerated truck for transportation, cold storage for produce, and food safety training to ensure compliance with institutional procurement standards. By partnering with Verdant Exchange for value chain coordination and leveraging existing relationships with school districts, Sentli aims to expand market access for underserved growers. The project will create pathways for BIPOC farmers to meet institutional demand, improve food security for low-income students, and foster economic opportunities through sustainable farming practices.
