2024 Grantee

Region One Education Service Center

Region One Education Service Center (ESC) is leading a transformative initiative to improve the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) food system through policy reform and community engagement. Region One ESC is advancing equitable food procurement practices prioritizing local, sustainably grown food by fostering collaboration between local farmers, schools, and policymakers. This work is being carried out through the Equitable Food Systems Working Group, which convenes regular meetings to drive policy changes and hosts an annual Food Summit, where farmers and school buyers connect directly to establish procurement pathways. Through these efforts, Region One ESC is helping create stable markets for local producers, farmers, and ranchers, addressing public health disparities, and supporting food security across RGV communities. Region One ESC’s approach aims to boost the regional economy, improve student health outcomes, and empower local farmers, making a lasting impact on both the food system and the community.
