The New Jersey Food Democracy Collaborative (NJFDC) is leading a pivotal initiative to transform food procurement policies in the state through the New Jersey Good Food Procurement Policy Project. This effort seeks to build a stakeholder-informed policy platform and grassroots coalition focused on advancing equitable food procurement practices that prioritize racial and economic justice, farm viability, and climate-readiness. With input from BIPOC farmers, food hubs, and community organizations, NJFDC aims to shift institutional procurement practices and create pathways for marginalized producers to thrive in the state’s food ecosystem. The project includes research, policy development, and the creation of a campaign to engage institutions, policymakers, and communities. Through this work, NJFDC will foster systemic change that supports local, sustainable food systems and ensures that all farmers, particularly those from historically marginalized communities, have equitable access to institutional markets.
