Monte Azul Foundation strengthens Puerto Rico’s rural food system by connecting small- and mid-scale BIPOC farmers to institutions, consumers, and value-added processing opportunities. Based in Yabucoa, Monte Azul operates a food hub, commercial kitchen, and farmer training center, providing technical assistance, post-harvest support, and business development services to a network of 90+ farmers across the island. Leadership is collaborative, centering the voices of farmers, women, and young producers in decision-making. By coordinating aggregation, processing, distribution, and institutional procurement, Monte Azul enables farmers to access stable markets through schools, universities, elder care facilities, and government programs. This approach builds economic resilience, advances food sovereignty, and strengthens locally rooted supply chains, ensuring that Puerto Rican farmers can thrive while communities gain reliable access to culturally relevant, nutritious, and locally grown food.
