Just Purchasing Consortium

Just Purchasing Consortium (JPC), leverages institutional procurement to protect food chain workers, starting with meatpacking and poultry, by creating enforceable labor standards and co-enforcement mechanisms that ensure safe, fair, and dignified workplaces. Worker-majority leadership and a network of worker centers across six states collaborate with universities, unions, and funders to build alliances, share strategies, and expand purchasing power as a tool for labor justice. JPC develops standards on key workplace issues—wage theft, retaliation, ergonomics, chemical exposure, and bathroom access—while training institutional buyers and connecting them with worker-driven organizations. Through retreats, ongoing collaboration, and university partnerships, JPC strengthens solidarity across the food system, scales worker protections, and creates replicable frameworks for leveraging procurement to advance labor equity nationwide.
