The Just Purchasing Consortium (JPC) is a worker-led initiative that partners with universities and worker centers to hold food chain employers accountable for unsafe and exploitative working conditions, particularly in the poultry and meatpacking industries. By leveraging the purchasing power of universities, the JPC builds capacity for workers to advocate for safer, healthier, and more just working environments. This national movement aims to transform the food value chain by developing enforceable standards for workplace safety, wage protection, and labor rights while also empowering workers to take collective action. Through partnerships with institutions and worker centers nationwide, JPC is creating systemic change that benefits food chain workers, particularly immigrants and workers of color, and promotes justice in institutional food procurement.
