Good Food Buffalo Coalition and Food for the Spirit

The Good Food Buffalo Coalition, in collaboration with Food for the Spirit, is working to transform the food procurement system in Western New York (WNY) by implementing equitable policies that support local BIPOC+ farmers and advance worker justice. Their approach includes advocating for the adoption of the Good Food Purchasing Policy (GFPP) at Buffalo Public Schools (BPS), which serves over 27,000 students, 80% of whom are BIPOC+ and economically disadvantaged. The Coalition’s work focuses on building infrastructure to help BIPOC+ farmers access institutional markets, as well as supporting farmworkers through partnerships with organizations like Alianza Agricola. By advancing policies that prioritize healthy, culturally appropriate food, fair wages for farmworkers, and the inclusion of BIPOC+ farmers in food supply chains, the Coalition aims to create a just food system that benefits both the local community and the wider food ecosystem.
