Feeding Black Power is a grassroots initiative aimed at equipping Black Angelenos with research and organizing infrastructure to increase civic participation with local and state government entities, particularly the LA County Office of Food Equity. The organization’s work focuses on providing a roadmap to racial equity in Los Angeles’ food system, emphasizing the role of local government policies and practices. Through a community-based approach, Feeding Black Power seeks to create a co-governance framework where Black communities can actively participate in shaping food policies and procurement practices. By gathering quantitative data on food system disparities and empowering local stakeholders, this initiative will help strengthen the participation of Black farmers, food producers, and consumers in institutional procurement processes, fostering a more inclusive and equitable food landscape in Los Angeles.
