Duwamish Tribal Services, through its Heron’s Nest program, is dedicated to revitalizing traditional Coast Salish agricultural practices and fostering food sovereignty for the Duwamish Tribe and Urban Indian communities in Seattle. A LandBack project, the Heron’s Nest is a hub for cultivating Indigenous crops, preserving ancestral knowledge, and strengthening inter-Tribal collaborations. The initiative includes educational programs on cooking, seed saving, and sustainable farming while providing access to traditional seeds, plants, and fresh produce. By combining community outreach, cultural preservation, and mutual aid efforts, Heron’s Nest not only supports Tribal and non-Tribal communities but also reaffirms the Duwamish Tribe’s connection to their ancestral land and foodways.
