The Anishinaabe Agriculture Institute (AAI), is an Indigenous-led organization in northern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota working to restore traditional, resilient farming systems and build a regional food economy. AAI produces heritage crops like corn, beans, squash, potatoes, maple syrup, and wild rice, raises livestock including goats, and partners with local Indigenous and immigrant communities to provide culturally appropriate foods. Through youth training, cooperative development, and expanded production and distribution, AAI strengthens Indigenous leadership, promotes food sovereignty, and creates equitable, multi-cultural food systems that reconnect communities to land, culture, and nutritious, locally produced foods.
