The Virgin Islands Good Food Coalition (VIGFC) is working to establish sustainable, community-driven food procurement systems in the U.S. Virgin Islands by connecting BIPOC+ farmers with institutional buyers. VIGFC’s work bridges the gaps in education, coordination, and infrastructure that hinder local food procurement. Through a series of collaborative learning sessions, farm visits, and Good Food Purchasing training, VIGFC aims to build mutual understanding between farmers and institutional representatives while developing a community-led action plan. This initiative will provide technical assistance, support for food safety certifications, and infrastructure planning to create a local food hub. By integrating these efforts, VIGFC will enhance food access, support local producers, and strengthen the resilience of the regional food system, ultimately promoting equitable, sustainable food procurement practices across schools, hospitals, and other institutions in the Virgin Islands.
