Nuestras Raíces weaves land use, equity and cultural heritage to build power among low income Latinx farmers. With a mission to create healthy environments, celebrate “agri-culture,” and harness collective energy to advance their vision toward a just and sustainable future, they are a Latinx-led community-based organization serving Western Massachusetts. Long established in their community, what started with the revitalization of abandoned land to form a community garden has now grown into a multi-faceted project including a 30-acre urban farmer incubation and training site along with a clean energy business and a mobile market that serves vulnerable members of the community.
GROWING JUSTICE support will help to expand their capacity to build power for Latinx farmers through direct farmer education and partnerships with a local university. The funding will help to strengthen the farmworker position in the value chain and allow them to deliver greater quantities of equitably and sustainably sourced produce to large contracts as well as vulnerable populations.
