Apache Farmers’ Co-op is providing networking, resources, infrastructure, and market development for Apache grown local food. With minimal fresh produce and only one grocery store for 15,000 tribal members, this project seeks to shift the culture of food within the community and fuel a grassroots effort to bring an abundance of good food to the people. From working with tribal leaders in the development of a tribal food code to assessing community farmers needs and securing large procurement contracts, the Apache Farmers Co-op is taking a holistic approach to addressing economic development and food justice in their community while integrating traditional practices of irrigation and land stewardship.
